REV. HANS NIELSEN DIED DECEMBER 22

Rev. Hans Nielsen, a former pastor of the First Lutheran Church of Blair, passed away on December 22 after an illness of several months. He was born in Denmark on February 28, 1861, and was thus past 83 years of age.

At the age of 22 years he came to America, settling at Albert Lea, Minnesota where he found employment. Here he remained for several years.

In 1894 he entered Trinity Seminary and after two years there and one at Elkhorn, Iowa, he was ordained into the ministry, one of the first three theological students to be ordained in the United Danish Lutheran Church.

He was married in June, 1897 to Jennie von Stocken, and to them one child was born - now the Rev. Skriver Nielsen, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, Denver, Colorado.

Deceased served as pastor at Wisner, Nebraska for six years, when he moved to Neola, Iowa. He remained there until 1916 when he moved to a pastorate in Wisconsin. In 1919 he accepted a call from Minden, Nebraska, and in 1922 when he moved to Blair where he was paster of the First Lutheran Church for nine years, retiring from active service in 1931.

Shortly after beginning his pastorate here his wife passed away and in 1925 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Lydia Christensen.

Surviving him are his wife, his son, and other relatives and numerous friends.
