FORMER BLAIR MAN DIES IN OMAHA

Alva F. Smith, 88, of 1520 Walker Street, Omaha, died Saturday at a hospital in Omaha. Born in Blair, he had lived on Omaha 50 years. He had the first taxicab company in Omaha, with stands outside the Paxton and the old Iler Grand Hotel.

For 12 years he operated “The Rendevos” at sixty third and Center Streets. He suffered a stroke four years ago and had been paralyzed since.

Survivors are the widow, Fay; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Maxine Bonham, Carter Lake, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Hugh McCracken and Mrs. Charles Beardsley, both of Omaha.

Alva was born and reared in Blair. His father, “Jim” Smith, was well known among the earlier inhabitants of Blair.
