MRS. DETLEF KRUSE 73, DIED AT HER CALHOUN HOME

Well Known Resident Had Lived In County For 63 Years

Mrs. Detlef Kruse passed away at her home in Fort Calhoun on Thursday, December 23, 1943 of pneumonia. Mrs. Kruse was born in Omaha June 10, 1870, and was 73 years of age at the time of her death.

When 10 years old she moved with her parents to a farm three miles north of Bennington where she resided until her marriage to Detlev Kruse on March 10th, 1892. She and her sister, Mrs. Nick Witt, were married in a double ceremony at the German Hall.

Mr. and Mrs. Kruse resided on their farm in the Green School district until 1924 when they retired and moved to Calhoun. Mrs. Kruse was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Aid Society. She was also a member of the Woodman Circle and an active Red Cross worker.

Mrs. Kruse is survived by her husband who was unable to attend the funeral because he was bedfast with the flu. Four daughters also survive: Mrs. Frances Suverkrubbe, Mrs. Claus Rohwer, both of Calhoun; Mrs. Emil Tietgen and Mrs. Robert Eddie of Carroll, Nebraska. A daughter, Mrs. Hans Tietgen, passed away a few years ago. One brother, Fred Dornacker of Kennard, also survives.

Funeral services were held at the Ft. Calhoun Presbyterian Church at two o’clock Sunday, with Rev. Layton Jackson of the Florence Presbyterian church conducting the services.

Mrs. Kruse will be greatly missed. Her home was always open for many happy gatherings to large circles of friends who loved her and Mr. Kruse. She was always active and helpful in the church and community affairs, and her place will not be easily filled.
