CASPER H. STORK RITES HELD AUGUST 24

A Resident Of County Since 1868. Dies At Age Of 88 Years

Funeral services for Casper H. Stork, well known retired farmer and pioneer of the Arlington vicinity, who died at his farm home where he had lived since coming to Washington County 75 years ago, were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran church on Tuesday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. Carl Hellman officiating. A brief service at the home preceded the one at the church. The hymns sung by the congregation were “Hark! A Voice Saith, All Are Mortal” and “Jerusalem, Thou City Fair and High”, and the choir sang “Wait, My Soul and Tarry”.

Mr. Stork was the son of Casper H. Stork and Louise Schmidt Stork; he was born on November 23, 1854 at Oettinghausen, Westphalia, Germany, and in 1868 at the age of 13 he came to the United States with his family. They traveled by steamboat to New Orleans, then by ferry boat up the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers to Omaha, and from there made the trip by team and wagon to the old Stork homestead where he lived until his death.

He joined the church at an early age and was confirmed at St. John’s Church of Logan Creek near Hooper in March, 1870 by the late Pastor E. J. Frese. He was the oldest member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church north of Arlington.

Mr. Stork was married to Anna Brinkmann on August 27, 1886, and to this union were born six children, three having preceded their father in death. The couple celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1936.

Mr. Stork had been in failing health for nearly six years, and was bedfast for about ten days prior to his death on Friday morning, August 21, at the age of 88 years. Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William Vogt and Mrs. William Schmidt; and one son, Fred, all of Arlington. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Pallbearers were Robert Stork, Curtis Schmidt, Rupert Vogt, Harris Vogt, Gilbert Scheer and Elmer Sperling. Interment was made in St. Paul’s Lutheran cemetery.
