MRS. JOE LOVE, RESIDENT SINCE ’76, IS DEAD

Long-Time Resident Well Known In This Vicinity. Family Resides Here

Mrs. Joe Love, resident of this county since 1876, died at her home on West Lincoln street on Thursday afternoon, June 3rd.

As Mattie L. Stewart, she was born in Mendon, Mo. on Dec. 11, 1874, and came to Nebraska when two years of age. Her parents bought a farm in the Sutherland school district where she spent her childhood.

After completing her education, she taught school for a number of years, and was one of the most successful in her work in the school room.

On July 22, 1899 she was married to Joe Love, the ceremony being performed in Blair, and they at once began farming on a farm owned by the husband in the same vicinity.

They resided on this same farm until they retired and moved to Blair a few years back, and it was on this same farm that their family of nine children were born. Eight of the family are living, one having died in infancy.

The children are: G. Aubrey Love, Jolley, Iowa; Stewart A. of Omaha; J. Ross, Blair; Mrs. Drusilla French, Blair; Mrs. Gertrude Trumble, Papillion; Mrs. Mary Gleeson, Riverside, Calif.; Mrs. Elizabeth Montgomery, Omaha; and Sgt. Chas. R. of Camp Barkeley, Texas. Three sisters and one brother also survive her: Mrs Druscilla McCann of Lincoln; Mrs. Jennie Pilcher of Omaha; Mrs. George Hader of Howells, Nebr.; and Loftin Stewart, who is with a fleet somewhere in the Pacific.

The son arrived just before the death of his mother. The entire family was present at the last sad rites which were held last Sunday at 2:30 at the home and at 3 o’clock at the Christian church of which she was a member, with Rev. Cochran, pastor of the church officiating. Interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

Mrs. Love was a woman of the truest instincts, a remarkable wife and mother. She was always interested in the activities of her community and her church, and as such she filled a place that will make her loss greatly felt. Always helpful and unselfish, she lived a life which is most certainly worthy of emulation.
