FORMER HERMAN BANKER PASSES AWAY SATURDAY

E. W. Burdic, 81 Years, Buried At Herman On Monday

E. W. Burdic, well known businessman in this county, passed away last Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gretchen Daugherty. He had been in failing health for a number of years.

Deceased was in the banking business in Herman for many years, and at the same time operated a number of farms in that vicinity. He was for several terms a member of the county board in which office he gave an exceptionally high type of service.

He was a man who was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him and in his hometown he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, and in his passing he leaves a host of old friends who will feel a personal loss in his passing. A high class gentleman always, he will be greatly missed.

He leaves his aged wife, three sons, Earl of Broken Bow, Nebraska; Lloyd and Neale in Omaha; and the daughter, Mrs. Gretchen Daugherty of Omaha.

Funeral services were held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall in Herman with Rev. Clarke officiating, and interment was made in the Herman cemetery.

Eugene Burdic Dies; Once Banker and Commissioner

E. W. "Gene" Burdic, 81, former Herman banker and county commissioner, and for years one of Washington county's leading citizens, died Saturday in Omaha at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Daugherty, 1503 South 83rd street

Brief services were held at the Daugherty home at 1 p.m. Monday, followed at 3:30 by rites at the Herman Legion hall, where 500 friends filled the hall to overflowing. The Rev. A. W. Clarke, Herman Methodist minister, officiated, and interment was in Herman cemetery. Pallbearers were Waldo Hancock, J. B. Jensen, Chris Korshoj, D. W. Rutledge, E.C. Johnson and L. D. Long, all of Herman.

Born November 16, 1861, at Angola, Indiana, Mr. Burdic came to the Herman vicinity in 1878 with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burdic. He received his education in the Herman public school, and when about 23 years old began farming. After two years he turned his attention to merchandising and the shipping of livestock, which business he followed for 18 years. He managed Herman's elevator for a number of years.

Joins Herman Bank

Mr. Burdic then purchased an interest in the Plateau State bank of Herman, and began management of the institution with the late George Latta. He remained at the helm of the Herman bank. for 30 years, being joined in later years by his son, Earl.

In public enterprises, Mr. Burdic gave generously of his time. He was a county commissioner for 20 years, and served on the Herman board of education 40 years. He was long a member of Landmark lodge, A.F. & A.M., and attained membership in both the Knights Templar and Shriners.

Married Cora Rose

Mr. Burdic and Cora Rose of Herman were married March 12, 1885, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Omaha eight years ago. Four children were born to them.

Surviving Mr. Burdic are his wife, Cora, of Omaha; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Daugherty (Gretchen) of Omaha; and three sons, Earl C. of Broken Bow, Lloyd and Neil of Omaha. There are eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
