#1-20 Dec., 1922 - The Pilot - Vernon Newkirk

Vernon Newkirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boone Newkirk, was born January, 1898 north of Arlington, and died Wednesday, December 13 at the home of William Plank in Fremont. At the time of his death he was employed at the Cedar Bluffs bank. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday at 2 o’clock. The Methodist minister of Cedar Bluffs officiating. The masonic order o Cedar Bluffs had charge of the funeral services, he being master Mason. Interment was made at the Arlington cemetery.

SON OF A.B. NEWKIRK DIES AT FREMONT

Vernon E. Newkirk, aged 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Newkirk, residing near Arlington, died in Fremont at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Planck last Saturday afternoon following an illness of six weeks.

Vernon E. Newkirk was born in Washington county January 26, 1898 and grew to manhood and was educated in the schools of the county. He became identified with the banking business several years ago and was employed in the First National bank of Fremont for some time, and then went to Cedar Bluffs as assistant cashier in the bank at that place.

He was a most highly esteemed and trusted young man; a member of the Masonic and Easter Star lodge, popular in business and social activities, and a large circle of friends mourn his untimely death.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Newkirk, two brothers, Merle and Edward; two sisters, Edna and Catherine, and many other relatives, among whom is Mrs. C. J. Robinson of this city, an aunt, as well as many near and dear friends.

The body was removed to his home ten miles northeast of Arlington where private funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. and at 2:00 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Miller of Cedar Bluffs, and interment was made in the Arlington cemetery, the Masonic order of Cedar bluffs having charge of the services at the grave.
