YOUNG LADY DIES OF LOCKJAW AFTER OPERATION

Miss Winifred Widener died at the Blair hospital Friday evening, December 1, from lockjaw, following an operation for appendicitis ten days before.

Deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Widener of Kennard, and was 17 years of age at the time of her death.

About ten days previous to her passing, she underwent an operation for appendicitis and seemed to be getting along nicely as the wound was healing from the outside, and the stitches had been removed. Her physician had intended to take her home for thanksgiving, but before that date symptoms of lockjaw developed and although an Omaha specialist administered antitoxin, the remedy availed nothing.

It is stated by relatives that the attendants thought infection developed from the material used in closing the wound, and members of the family think the patient may have injured herself by trying to turn herself in bed as she weighed 180 pounds.

The body was removed to her home at Kennard, and the funeral was held at the Methodist church in Kennard Sunday, and burial was made in the Kenned cemetery. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Widener, and two sisters, Mrs. Clara French and Miss Dorothy Widener, besides several other relatives.
