Died on 9/27/1922

20 Sept., 1922 - The Pilot - W. F. Bisbee

LeRoy Bisbee was called to Benjamin, Texas on account of the serious illness of his brother, W. F. Bisbee of that place. It was thought best to take him to a sanitarium at Knox City where he underwent an operation and died a week later, August 27th. The following obituary is taken from the Benjamin Post: W. F. Bisbee was born February 26, 1862 at Alpena, Michigan where his father was pastor of the Congregational church. Later his parents moved to Fontanelle, Neb. where they took charge of the school there known as the University of Nebraska. He spent his early years there, and on their homestead near that place. He obtained his education in the University at Lincoln afterward, spending most of his life in the west, western Nebraska, Montana, South Dakota and west Texas. Except a short time he lived in Chicago prior to and during the Columbian exposition. He seemed to appreciate the freedom of the west. Coming to Benjamin 28 years ago, working first for H. G. Bedford. Later taking up land located on the South Wichita river. From that time until his death he has been engaged in the newspaper business, being editor and publisher of the county paper. Mr. Bisbee was always a lover of athletics and enjoyed nice clean sports in which he was a leader. He did not take an interest in anything which was not for the upbuilding of a Christian character. He lived on a higher plane than most men and enjoyed the good and beautiful things that most men overlooked. He was an inspiration to men to live better and nobler lives. He was of a cheerful disposition and anyone felt better after being with him. There was never a suggestion or move made in town for an improvement but what he did his part or more. He will be greatly missed in church work for he was a teacher of marked ability. On December 10, 1902 he was married to Miss Myrtle Alexander of Benjamin who survives him with two daughters, four sons, three sisters, Mrs. Mary L. Bacon, Fremont, Neb.; Mrs. L. Grace Davidson, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Helen Moody, Santa Monica, Calif.; and one brother, LeRoy Bisbee, Arlington, Neb. Mr. Bisbee died August 27, 1922 at 5:30 p.m. at the Knox City sanitarium following an operation. He was 60 years, 6 months and one day old. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mann, pastor of the Methodist church, after which the Masons took charge and laid the body to rest.
