White, Elvira E. (Woods)(Stockton)(Kiely) 8/21/1925

Printed in the Wednesday, August 26, 1925 Pilot, Blair, Nebraska

Mrs. J.F. White died at the family residence on east Lincoln street at about 8:30 last Friday morning, August 21st, following an illness of several months’ duration. The funeral service was held at the house at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. Chas. D. Herring, of St. Mary’s Episcopal church officiating. She was a pioneer in Blair coming in 1869, and bought lots at the first sale, and conducted the only hotel in the city at the time, the Kiely House, a part of the old passenger depot, then located on the west side of the street from the present freight house. This has been her home ever since, so few have lived any longer than she, about 56 years. Elvira E. Woods was born in Somerset, Ky., October 7th, 1839. She was nearly 86 years of age. She was married to Dr. T.T. Stockton and they lived at Rome, Ga., during the war, Dr. Stockton being in the Confederat. … is survived by her husband and four children, Mrs. Mattie Pound, of this city, W.W. Stockton, of Los Angeles, Calif., Frances M. Kiely, of Wilson Park, N.Y., and George W. Kiely, of Toronto, Canada. Another daughter, Mrs. Thos. Kelly, died in 1906. Also one sister, Mrs. R.E. Curd, …dren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. R.E. Curd, of Louisville, Ky. Her life has been so much identified with the history of Blair and was so well known we can say little here that isn’t known by all. She has ben about but little for the past two or three years on account of failing health, but will yet be greatly missed by those who knew her intimately. The bereaved husband and relatives have the sincere sympathy of many friends.

Note: This was not well-written--when my husband read the newspaper clipping he said it almost seemed like the type-setter missed a word here and there. But it is interesting anyway. I think her maiden name was Woods, her first husband was Dr. R.T.T. Stockton (a Confederate Civil War doctor), her 2nd husband a Mr. Kiely, and her 3rd husband Mr. John White
