#1-23 Aug., 1922 - The Pilot - Margaritha Wendt

Mrs. Henry Wendt died at the hospital in Wayne, Neb. Monday night of cancer, from which she had been a sufferer for some time. She went to Winside to visit her daughter, Mrs. Andrew Anderson, where she became suddenly worse and was taken to the Winside hospital. The body was brought home last evening, and the funeral will be held at the residence, corner of ??? and Lincoln streets at 2 o’clock tomorrow, Rev. S. Nusbaum of Bennington officiating. Burial will be in the German cemetery in Richland township. Margreta Schumaker was born in Germany April 6th 1858 and came to this country with her parents when she was 15 years of age, settling near Washington, Neb. On her birthday, April 6th, 1876 she was married to Henry Wendt and they lived on a farm near Washington until three years ago when they moved to this city. Eight children were born to them, Mrs. Mary Thompson died six years ago. Henry lives at Isabel, S.D.; Dora, Mrs. John Dornacker, lives at Bennington; Fred, Charles and Minnie, Mrs. Andrew Anderson, live at Winside; Martha, Mrs. Chris Neels, lives at Wisner; and John, who was just married the 6th of this month, lives with his parents She leaves, besides the children and her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Jos. Harder of this city and Mrs. Anna Wiese of Kennard and one brother, Henry Schumaker of Omaha. Also thirteen grandchildren. All the children will be here for the funeral but Henry who lives at Isabel, S.D.

#2-24 Aug., 1922 - The Enterprise - Margaretha Wendt

Mrs. Henry Wendt, who for some time has been suffering from cancer, passed away at the hospital in Wayne on last Monday night at about 12 o’clock.

Margaretha Johanna Schumacher was born in Javenstat, Germany April 6, 1858, and came with her parents to America in 1873 at the age of 15 years and settled in Washington county.

She was married to Mr. Henry Wendt April 6, 1876, and to them nine children were born, five boys and four girls. William, the oldest boy, died in infancy. Mrs. John Dornacker of Bennington; Mrs. Chris Neels of Wisner; Mrs. Andrew Anderson of Winside; Henry of Isabel, S.D.; Fred and Charlie of Winside and John of Blair and Mrs. Nels Thompson who died several years ago.

There are sixteen grandchildren. The funeral services were held at the home this afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by the pastor of the German Lutheran church of Bennington, and interment was made in the German cemetery ten miles south of Blair.

Word was received here of the death of Mrs. Henry Wendt of Blair at the Wayne hospital Tuesday morning following a very brief illness, she having gone to Wayne to visit her son, Fred, for a few days. Mrs. Wendt was a sister of Mrs. Henry Wiese, Sr., and lived for many years on a farm south of town. Many of our older residents were well acquainted with Mrs. Wendt before she moved to Blair some years ago.
