#2-0 Aug., 1922 - The Tribune - Mogens Pedersen

WELL KNOWN DANISH CITIZEN CALLED TO THE LIFE BEYOND

Mogens Pedersen died at his home near Blair August 5, 1922, aged 66 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was born in Denmark August 14, 1855, and was married in that country 38 years ago to Miss Marie Sorensen, and with her came to America 35 years ago and took up his residence in Omaha. In 1895 he became a resident of Washington county. He was associated with B. F. Haller in the real estate business for seven years, and afterwards moved to a farm east of the McCarthy schoolhouse where he lived for thirty years and where the scenes of life ended.

When fourteen years of age he was confirmed in the Danish Lutheran church in his native country, but in 1907 he transferred his membership to the Methodist church in Blair at the time Rev. John Grant Shick was pastor, and always loved the old fashioned church hymns and often asked his children to sing some of his favorite selections. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood, and was a delegate to the national convention in California from the local order some years ago.

From time to time since his illness of four months, The Tribune has mentioned his condition, always hoping that he might be restored to health, but it was willed otherwise, and his family whom he loved so well bow in submission to the Higher Will. He was fond of all children, but his own he idolized. He often referred to his wife when speaking of her as “My Sweetheart”, and there was always that bearing and pride of ownership in his eyes not always seen in men.

To Mr. Pedersen and wife were born fourteen children, three of them were called away during early infancy, and Selma at the age of four years. The ten other children have lived to be a comfort and consolation to their father, and will be staffs of declining years of their mother. Chris and Pete live in Omaha; August at Burwell, Nebr.; Gus, Aurora; Eaner, Blair; Oscar and Leonard are at home; Mrs. John McCracken, Laurel, Nebr.; and Mrs. John Lewis, Fremont. There are also twelve grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Methodist church and was largely attended; Rev. J. A. Johnson, pastor of the church officiating, and interment was made in the cemetery at Kennard. A large concourse of friends followed the body to its last resting place.

The community has lost a fine citizen, the family a true and loyal husband and father, and a good neighbor has been called to a higher and nobler life.
