Shortly after the birth of the daughter, the wife died leaving him to care for the daughter who has remained his constant companion up the the time of his death. He was married a second time in 1876 to Miss Sophie Waterman. A daughter was born to this union following which the mother died on Christmas Day, 1878. The daughter by the second marriage died as Mrs. William Borgeding about fifteen years ago leaving an infant daughter, Mabel, who together with Miss Anna Meier are the only close surviving relatives.
