#1-7 June, 1922 - The Pilot - John Henry Mehrens

John Henry Mehrens died up at the Crowell Memorial Home last Friday evening, and the funeral was held there at 2:30 yesterday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Underwood officiating, assisted by Rev. C. M. Foreman.

Mr. Mehrens has been in failing health for some time, and the end was not unexpected. He was compelled to give up the work of caretaker at the Home two years ago, and became a resident. During the four years he spent at the Home, he had so endeared himself to Supt. and Mrs. Underwood and the other guests of the Home that he will be greatly missed and mourned by them.

He was born in Germany Nov. 10th, 1845, and was therefore almost 75 years of age. He came to America with his parents in 1854, settling on land that is now a part of the city of Davenport, Iowa. His father died there and the boys, with their mother, come to Cuming City in 1856 before the town of Blair was even thought of. He grew to manhood there but never married. He made his home with his brother, Gerhart Mehrens, mostly working for the late Jacob Carter, later John Carter, for Watson Tyson and John Cameron the greater part of his life. He is survived by his brother, Christ Mehrens who makes his home with Maurice Mehrens; his nephew, Gerhart Mehrens of Long Beach, Calif. and a number of nieces and nephews. Burial will be in the Blair cemetery on the Mehrens family lot.
