#1-1 Mar., 1922 - The Pilot - Susan Blackstone

Mrs. Susan Blackstone died very suddenly last Thursday morning, having been in bed three days at her home in this city. She was just six days past 77 years of age, and the end came peacefully at about 4 o’clock. The funeral was held at the home on east South street at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. C. M. Foreman officiating. Susan A. Nettleton was born at Kingston, Ontario, Canada February 17th, 1845. When she was thirteen years old her parents moved to Wisconsin where they lived for three years, coming to Nebraska from there, driving through with an ox team and settled in Burt county. A number of years later they moved to Cuming City and later to this city which had been her home for the past twenty seven years. At the age of nineteen she was married to Edward Blackstone at Fairview February 11th, 1864 while Nebraska was still a territory. Fifteen children were born to them, eight of whom are now living. Her husband died August 10th, 1896. The children are Will of Casper, Wyo.; Alfred, Ralph and Emmett of Burlington, Wyo.; Jennie, now Mrs. J. A. Owens of Fulton, N.Y.; and Gace, Mrs. Fred Jones of Blair township. Clarence and Robert lived at home. Mrs. Blackstone united with the Baptist church soon after moving to Blair, and lived an upright and honorable Christian life. She will be greatly missed by many friends.

Mrs. Susan Alzina Blackstone passed away on last Thursday, Feb. 23, 1922, at her home on east South street in this city at the age of 77 years and 5 days.

Deceased was born in Canada, coming to Blair about 27 years ago where she has since made her home.

The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Foreman, were held at the home at 3 p.m. on last Sunday where a large number of friends gathered to show their respect for the departed and sympathy for the surviving relatives.

She leaves to mourn her Mrs. Fred Jones of Kennard, Robert and Clarence Blackstone of Blair, Will of Casper, Wyo., Alfred, Ralph and Emmett of Burlington, Wyo. and Mrs. Owens of Fulton, N.Y.

MRS. SUSAN A. BLACKSTONE HAS DEPARTED THIS LIFE

Mrs. Susan A. Blackstone passed peacefully away at her home in the southeastern part of the city about four o’clock Thursday morning after a brief illness. The funeral was held on Sunday at 3 p.m., conducted by Rev. C. M. Foreman, and the body was laid to rest in “God’s Acre” east of this city.

Susan Alzina Nettleton was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada February 17, 1845, and was 77 years and six days old at the time of her passing. She came with her parents to Wisconsin when thirteen years of age and lived there three years when the family drove through with an ox team to Nebraska. They resided for several years in Burt County, moving to Cuming city and later to Blair, where she has since resided, living in the same house for twenty seven years.

When nineteen years of age she was united in marriage to Edward Blackstone at Fairview, Nebr. on Feb. 11, 1864, and was the mother of fifteen children, eight of whom are living; there are also seven grandchildren. The husband passed away Aug. 20, 1896.

The living children are William Blackstone of Casper, Wyo.; Alfred, Ralph and Emmet of Burlington, Wyoming; Jennie, now Mrs. J. O. Owens of Fulton, N.Y.; Grace, now Mrs. Fred Jones of Blair; and Clarence and Robert, who were with her during her final illness. Mrs. Blackstone was a member of the Baptist church for a great many years.
