#2-23 Feb., 1922 - The Enterprise - Elizabeth Patrick

MRS. R. PATRICK

The death of Mrs. R. Patrick, an old and highly respected citizen of this city, occurred early Friday morning, Feb. 17.

Mrs. Patrick, who was making her home with her daughter, Mrs. S. E. Kemp, had retired the night before in apparently good health, although she was subject to severe coughing spells at times that were annoying to her. During the early hours of the morning, Mrs. Kemp heard her coughing and went into her room to aid her, and found her in much distress. A physician was at once summoned, but she was beyond human aid, and passed away in a few moments.

Elizabeth McCormick was born near Munsey, Indiana Aug. 10, 1840, and was therefore nearing her 82nd birthday. She was reared and married at Munsey to Mr. R. Patrick Feb. 15, 1862, and they afterwards moved to Rigdon, Indiana where they lived for a time.

The family came to Blair 35 years ago, and Mr. Patrick engaged in the mercantile business for a number of years.

The family consisted of five daughters who survive the mother, the father passing away Dec. 31, 1907.

The daughters, all of whom were present at the funeral services, are: Mrs. Anna Kemp and Mrs. Myrtle Kilian of this city; Mrs. Grace McKelvey of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs Blanche Sheldon of Columbus, Nebr; and Miss Bess Patrick of Omaha.

Besides the daughters, she leaves two brothers, William McCormick of Blair and James McCormick of Munsey, Indiana.

There are sixteen grandchildren, including Meredith Kemp, who died in 1918 while in the service of his country. There are four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Patrick was of a quiet unassuming disposition, a perfect home body, happy with her children and her friends. She was always cheerful and pleasant, with a kind thought for everyone. The writer recalls many pleasant memories of her hospitality and good will and happy childhood hours spent in her home.

Her 60th wedding anniversary, which event she still loved to observe, occurred two days before her death and a number of relatives and friends came in to visit her at that time and pay their respects to one whom they loved so well.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 2:30 p.m. at the Congregational church, Rev. Sealey of that church officiating. Interment was made in the Blair cemetery, beside the husband whose memory was so dear to her and whose presence seemed so near during all the later years of her life.

A number of out of town friends and relatives were present at the funeral services.
