#1-18 Jan., 1922 - The Pilot - Vera Marie Morgan

Vera Marie, baby daughter of George W. and Marie Morgan, was born in the family home three and one half miles north from Blair, Neb. August 6, 1920, and fell asleep in the arms of Jesus January 13, 1922, aged one year, five months and five days. Baby Morgan was a sweet little girl, beautiful and always good, though she has never known a well day. So quiet was she that we hardly knew she was there, but she seemed to appreciate your notice so much, and though helpless, there was that sweet little smile to repay you for a word of sympathy, and no one could see her without loving her and often thinking about her. Everything was done for her that love knew how to do. Her mother by her side day and night, ready and quick to answer every call. No one could have done more than she. The father, well no father can measure up to the mother in tenderness and sympathy, but Brother Morgan was always ready to do all he could, as any father would have done. The friends were all ready to help, and would have done so were it possible, but it was not possible to do more than to lift some of the household burdens from the mother’s hand that she might stay by baby more closely, and this they did with all gladness. The funeral was conducted from the home Sunday afternoon, January 15th, J. A. Johnson, pastor of the local M.E. church, conducting the service. The little body was laid to rest in the Blair cemetery, there to rest awhile among the flowers, so much like herself in purity and sweetness for the floral offering was very beautiful. The family surely have the sympathy of the entire community.

ANGELS SUMMON THE SPIRIT OF BABY VERA MORGAN

A little over seventeen months ago a dear little rosebud of humanity came to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Morgan, three and a half miles north of Blair, and lent sunshine to the home. The baby was never well, but was an unusually good and beautiful child, ready to respond to any attention bestowed upon her with a sweet baby smile which took possession of all hearts, and she was duly christened Vera Marie.

On Friday, January 13, the little body was freed from suffering, and angels came and took her spirit back to heaven where she will never again know pain or sorrow. The loan of the baby was a brief one, but oh, how they loved her.

While the entire family realize that the baby is safe and happy, it does not entirely lessen the grief in that home over their loss.

The dainty little form was prepared for burial and on Sunday afternoon Rev. J. A. Johnson conducted the last sad rites at the home where many friends had gathered to comfort if possible the parents and brother and sisters of little Vera Marie. Four young ladies, Lucile Raver, Helen Stevens, Newell Hillman and Grace Gollehon officiated as pallbearers, and the little body was tenderly laid away in the cemetery here, the casket covered with sweet, fragrant blossoms, none of which were fairer nor sweater than she. Mrs. W. F. Hemphill and Miss Ethel Mead sang selections appropriate for the occasion.

While all the friends and acquaintances mourn with the family, none can do so like other mothers who have had little caskets brought into their homes. These, as no others, realize the deep sorrow of having to “give up” the baby.
