TWO DEAD, 1 HURT IN BLAIR SHOOTINGS

A divorced mother of two Wednesday was given a "50-50 chance" of surviving a gunshot wound in the chest inflicted in the early morning hours by her ex-husband, Blair police said.

Police Chief Walter Groves said the ex-husband apparently shot and killed the woman's boyfriend and then killed himself.

Groves said investigation has shown this is apparently what happened:

About 2 a.m., Ivan "Rusty" Misfeldt, 41, a former tavern operator from Blair, kicked down the door of his ex-wife's duplex at 868 North Thirteenth Street in northeast Blair.

He then allegedly fired a shot from a .32-caliber automatic pistol, hitting Ronald R. Young, 44, also of Blair, in the heart, killing him.

He then allegedly shot Camilla Misfeldt, 30, who had been divorced from him only a few weeks. Misfeldt apparently then shot himself in the head, killing himself.

Groves said Mrs. Misfeldt apparently was able to dial the rescue squad, although she couldn't give her address. Minutes later, one of Mrs. Misfeldt's two children picked up the telephone receiver and gave the address to the rescue squad dispatcher.

All three adults were found in the kitchen, Groves said. Mrs. Misfeldt was undergoing surgery at Blair Hospital Wednesday morning.

Groves said police had been called a few weeks ago after Misfeldt took the two children and kept them overnight.

After police found him and returned the children to their mother, his ex-wife declined to press charges. Groves said Misfeldt was "violent" during that incident, but did not hurt anyone.

Young, who lived at the Cottonwood Marina in Blair, worked at a neon sign company in Omaha, Groves said. He is survived by a wife and two children.

Autopsies have been ordered on Misfeldt and Young. Misfeldt may have been drinking at the time of the incident, Groves.

The children, one 5 or 6 years old, the other 2 or 3, are staying with Mrs. Misfeldt's mother, he said.
