Note: Mrs. Fred Panning (Lillie Wager, d. 1922) in Logan, Iowa Note: (by Sonja Springan Bauers) There is an error--it should be Panning, not Pawling. The obit was probably a handwritten submit, and if the handwriting was bad, I can see where 'nn' could look like 'wl'. If the tops of the n's weren't rounded but more pointed, it could look like a w and the 'l' might be an i that the dot was accidentally connected instead of above. Does that make sense? I've seen a lot of bad handwriting in my genealogy searches.

There was a Mrs. Fred Pawling buried at the same cemetery north of Fontanelle. and Fred Pawlings were married in Blair and according to Find A Grave, 3 of their 4 children were born in Washington Co. I saw in some of my research that a Pawling relative lived by Fontanelle at one time. I don't remember who except it was a Pawling. .

Maybe the one that submitted it to the paper knew both families and not thinking just put the wrong last name.

But this obit should be Mrs. Fred Panning not Pawling.
