GEORGE A. GEARY

The following notice from The Landis, Saskatchewan, Canada Record refers to the death of a former Washington county man and brother of Miss Sadie Geary, who has made her home in this city and Herman for several years.

“Death claimed one of the earlier settlers of Landis district on Tuesday morning in the person of George A. Geary, at the age of 55. Deceased came with his family to this district in 1911 from Herman, Neb., taking up a homestead in the Pinwherry neighborhood. He also purchased the land where he made his home, now in the Zimmer school district.

At the time of the epidemic four years ago, Mr. Geary was a victim of influenza. The death of his two sons, Ted and John, from the same disease, together with his own illness, was a very severe shock from which he never fully recovered. This illness also affected his heart which for the last year has given him considerable trouble. About three weeks ago he was taken ill and has since been under the care of Dr. Phoenix. Feeling that he would be unable to look after his farm, he sent for his son George, who has been for three years at Ione, Wash., to come back and take charge. George arrived with his family on Saturday and will remain.

Deceased leaves a widow and eight children, viz, George, above mentioned; Mrs. J. Buxton, Mabel, teacher at Perdue; Mrs. Walker of Saskatoon; Flora, attending Normal school; Evelyn, Chester and Eilene at home. A brother and sister live at Herman, Neb.; and another sister at Omaha, Neb. To all of these, the community extends heartfelt sympathy.

The late Mr. Geary was of a quiet disposition, and was highly respected for his honest and straight-forward principles and dealings with his fellow men. He and Mrs. Geary were members of the Methodist church in Nebraska, and since coming here have been allied with the congregation at Porter’s, where they took an active interest in the services and work of the church.

Many friends and sympathizers attended the funeral on Saturday when the services were held at the home, Rev. A. L. Richards of Cando officiating. It was intended to have the interment immediately following, but owing to the train from the east which brought a sister of deceased from Nebraska being five hours late, the final ceremony did not take place until Sunday morning when Mr. G. F. Jennings officiated at the grave."
