PIONEER WOMAN PASSES ON

The death of Mrs. James R. Caldwell occurred at 1:15 Wednesday morning, Oct. 25, at the family home on west South street after a long and serious illness.

Susan Catherine Rosenbaum was born in Virginia Aug. 27, 1855, and came west when quite young. With her husband and three children, she resided on a farm south of Blair for many years.

In 1909, after selling the farm, Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell moved to Blair, purchasing their present home.

The deceased leaves to mourn her passing the husband and children: Laura, who is Mrs. Tom Bates of Blair; Ella, who is Mrs. Earnest Carson of Blair; and Charles Caldwell of Omaha. There also five grandchildren.

Mrs. Caldwell was a home woman, devoted to her family and always glad to welcome her friends in her home.

Her illness was of long duration, but she was cheerful and patient to the last, appreciating the efforts of her family and physician to bring her back to health.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, Oct. 27, at two o’clock from the residence.

MRS. JAMES R. CALDWELL HAS BEEN CALLED TO REST

Mrs. Susan Caldwell, wife of James R. Caldwell, passed away at one o’clock Wednesday morning at her home in this city after an illness covering several months.

Susan C. Rosenbaum was born in Smythe county, Virginia August 27, 1854, and had recently passed her 68th birthday. She came to Omaha with her parents in 1863, and in 1867 moved with them to a farm in Washington county.

On March 1st, 1874 she was married to James R. Caldwell, and began housekeeping on a farm seven miles from this city where she resided for many years, rearing a family of three children, and removed to Blair in 1909, and had since made this her home. She was a woman of many virtues, first of which was a good, kind and affectionate mother, a faithful wife and a splendid neighbor. Several months ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis, and since that time her health has failed and for the past few weeks her demise was momentarily expected.

She leaves to sincerely mourn her death her husband, her three children, Laura, now Mrs. Thos. Bates, Ella, now Mrs E. G. Carson, and Chas. J. Caldwell of Omaha; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Disch of Maud, Oklahoma and Mrs. E. Spraker of Kennard; three brothers, J. C. Rosenbaum, residing near Blair, J. A. Rosenbaum of Los Angeles, Calif. and N. Rosenbaum of Turner, Oregon; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

The funeral will be held at the home Friday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. W. H. Underwood officiating.
