Once again it is our sad duty to chronicle the passing of one of our most beloved citizens. This time it is Mrs. R. J. Schenck, who passed away at her home here Friday, September 23 at 3:30. The deceased had been a sufferer of cancer the past nine months, and all that loving hands could do was done to relieve her from her suffering. She had been up and around until the past several weeks, altho her suffering was intense she was always cheerful, kind and with a thought for others.

Gertrude Pearl Grouvner was born June 1st, 1876 and reared near New Castle, Nebr., and died at her home in Herman Sept. 23, 1921. She was married to Robert J. Schenck Aug. 24, 1910. To this union were born four children, Mildred, Kenneth, Donald and Arlene. She was the fifth member of a family of ten. Her father, two brothers and two sisters having preceded her to the great beyond. She was a successful school teacher for several years, also taught music and was granted the privilege of traveling from coast to coast. She was employed in the post office at Laurel, Nebr. the year preceding her marriage. She is survived by her husband, her dear children, a mother, one sister, four brothers and a host of relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at one o’clock at the Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Kestersen, with the Eastern Star rendering their part of the exercises. The little girls of her Sunday School class carried the flowers which they placed on the casket.

The remains were taken to Craig and laid to rest in the cemetery there. The deceased was member of the Presbyterian church, but was a faithful worker in the Baptist church here. Her life was one of service and she was ever ready and willing to help in all things for the good of the community.

A large concourse of friends and relatives attended the funeral and followed the remains to Craig where the last sad rites were performed.

The sorrowing ones have the sincere sympathy of all.
