PIONEER MOTHER PASSES

The death of Mrs. Peter Therkelsen occurred last Friday, March 11, 1921 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Gochenouer after an illness of over three years with cancer.

The deceased was born in Denmark April 12, 1838, and was therefore nearly 83 years of age.

She came direct to Blair with her children in 1873, her husband having been in this country about six months.

They were the first Danish family to settle in Blair and the only one here for six years. When Mrs. Therkelsen arrived here she knew but one English word and found it difficult to buy at the stores because of her nationality and her difficulty in making known her wants.

Her husband passed away five years ago, and shortly after the sad parting she was induced to go to her daughter’s home and live with her.

She leaves to mourn her loss two children, Mrs. Gochenouer and Theodore Therkelsen, four grandsons, Bruce and Clarence Gochenouer and Harold and Raymond Therkelsen and one great grandson, Ray Therkelsen.

Services were held from the home, and the Danish Lutheran church, Rev. A. M. Anderson speaking in English and Rev. Rasmussen in Danish. A quartette from Dana College furnished the music. A profusion of flowers from friends and relatives were present. Burial was made in the family lot in the Blair cemetery.

The out of town people at the services were Bruce Gochenouer and wife of Omaha, Clarence Gochenouer of Lincoln, Mrs. Invar Garner, Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Gillespie, Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. K. R. Parker, Benson.
