Mrs. A. T. Witter, who has been ill for a number of months at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. D. Hammond of this city, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 23, at the age of seventy five years.

A short funeral service was held at the home Monday afternoon at four o’clock, Rev. Marsh of the Episcopal church reading the service.

The body was taken to Wayne, Neb. on the early morning train on Tuesday where the family lived formerly, and interment was made in the cemetery there.

Laura Ann Payne was born in Montague, Mass. Dec. 5, 1846. Her family moved to Monroe, Wis. when she was ten years of age. She was married on Sept. 15th, 1862 at Janesville, Wis. to Alvin T. Witter who survives her. To them five children were born, two boys and three girls: William Mack of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mertal Ardell, now Mrs. W. D. Hammond of Blair; and Chester Robert of Omaha. Two daughters passed away several years ago.

Other relatives who survive are one sister, Mrs. S. B. Perkins of Marian, Ky., a half sister, Mrs. Irving Millard of Los Angeles, Cal. and a half brother, Edward Payne of Denver, Col.

MRS. ALVIN T. WITTER IS CALLED TO HER REST

Mrs. Alvin T. Witter closed her eyes in endless sleep at 5 o’clock Sunday morning, January 3, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. D. Hammond on east Grant street, having been an invalid for many months.

Mrs. Witter’s home was at Wayne, Nebr. where she lived for many years. She and her husband came to Blair about two years ago to make their home with Dr. and Mrs. Hammond. It was about this time that her health began to fail and she was able to be out of doors only when taken in an invalid chair by her devoted husband or daughter.

She had been a great sufferer for the past several weeks, and her passing had been expected for some time.

The funeral was held from the Hammond home at 4 p.m. Monday, the discourse being given by Rev. A. E. Marsh of St. Mary’s Episcopal church, and the body taken to Wayne on the early morning train Tuesday for interment, and was accompanied by the bereaved husband, Dr. and Mrs. Hammond, and son, Robert Witter of Omaha, and Mrs. John McKeen, a close friend of the family, also accompanied the funeral party.

Laura Ann Payne was born in Montague, Mass. December 25, 1846, and was just past 75 years of age. Her family moved to Monroe, Wis. when she was ten years old. On Sept. 15, 1862, at Janesville, Wis. she was married to Alvin T. Witter. To them five children were born, two boys and three girls, William Mack of Los Angeles, Calif; Mertal Ardell, now Mrs. William Hammond of Blair; and Chester Robert of Omaha; two daughters having passed away several years ago. Besides the husband and children, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. S. B. Perkins of Marion, Ky., a half sister, Mrs. Irving Millard of Los Angeles and a half brother, Edward Payne of Denver, Colo.

Sympathy of many friends is extended to the family.
