EARLY NEBRASKA PASSES

Thomas P. Kennard died at his home in Lincoln last Thursday, June 24, in his 93rd year. He was one of the commissioners who located the state capital at Lincoln, and has had a varied and interesting career during the past fifty years.

He came to Nebraska in 1857, and settled at DeSoto, Washington Co., where he began the practice of law. Later he became engrossed with state politics from which profession he never wavered as long as good health permitted. He helped to organize the Nebraska territory into a state and was elected secretary of state during the first years of statehood.

In all the years of activity in Nebraska he was loyal to the interests of the state and to the capital, Lincoln, where he chose his home when the city was first laid out.

Funeral services were held at the capital on last Sunday.
