MERRITT SMITH

Merritt Smith died at his home in this city on Friday, June 4, 1920.

Mr. Smith was born in Galesville, N.Y. August 29, 1844, and moved to Hastings, Michigan with his parents in 1854 where he grew to manhood.

He came to Nebraska in 1872, settling on a farm nine miles northeast of Tekamah and two miles from the Arizona church.

In 1876 he was married to Mary A. Wycoff, and together they made the farm where he settled their home until they moved to Blair in 1907 where the family has since resided.

He leaves to mourn him a wife and one daughter, Pearl, and a brother who resides in Hastings.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church at 3 p.m. on last Sunday, and was largely attended by friends of the family here and from their old home in Burt county, which were in evidence of the deep respect in which the deceased was held.

Those in attendance at the funeral services from Burt county were: John Nesbit, Henry Owens, Thomas Gregg, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Sission, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Staffer, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Nelson and son, Edward, Mrs. Allie Tarent, Mr. Guy McGinnis, Mr. Thos. Jones, Mrs. Sewell, Mr. Cash Coleman and their nephew, Mr. Chas. Wickham and wife and grandson.
