Obituary for Melvin W. Rix

Melvin Wilke Rix was born on November 5, 1927 in Benson, Nebraska to Harry and Elsie (Wilke) Rix. He grew up in Benson where he attended school. At age 18, Melvin enlisted in the United States Army in February of 1946 and served until May of 1947. He had 7 months of foreign service while deployed in the Southeast Asia.

Melvin married Louann Reed on November 13, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bennington, Nebraska.

Melvin and Louann lived and farmed near 108th and Blondo, in the Bunk House on the McGee Farm on State Street before settling on a farm at 180th and Military before moving to Fremont in 2005.

Melvin worked at International Harvester in Irvington before going to the Douglas County Garage in addition to farming and raising hogs. He enjoyed fishing, attending farm auctions and Threshing Bees. He was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed watching farm related television shows. Melvin savored a home cooked meal of meatloaf and a hot cup of coffee.

Melvin passed away on April 24, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Home in Blair, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 19 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Elsie and wife Louann. Melvin is survived by his sister Marcia Williams of Dinuba, CA; nieces and nephews.
