RITES HELD FOR MRS. WM.

Arlington business houses were closed Saturday afternoon during the funeral services for Mrs. William Steen, Sr. Mrs. Steen died suddenly at her home Wednesday, December 24, as the result of a heart attack. The last rites were conducted by Rev. H. C. VanValkenburgh at the Congregational church at two o’clock, following a brief service at the Reckmeyer Funeral chapel.

Mrs. Pauline Anderson and Miss Lucy Lawson sang, with Mrs. Alice Newcom as accompanist. Pallbearers were William E. Webb, Harley Appleby, C.A. Menking, Nels Svendgaard, Lawrence Hall and Bern Decker.

As Louise Kroeger, Mrs. Steen was born December 29, 1876, at Heidi, Germany, but came with her parents to Davenport, Iowa when only two years old. The family later moved to Omaha and on March 17, 1897 she was married to J. William Steen of Omaha.

For a number of years the couple resided on a farm near Omaha, moving later to Leigh and then to Oregon where they were in business. They returned to eastern Nebraska and in 1927 they moved to Arlington and operated a cafe. Mr. Steen died several years ago, but his widow continued to operate the cafe, although in failing health the past few years.

Surviving Mrs. Steen are a son, William Steen of Fremont; a daughter, Mrs. Christene Paulson, who with her husband was associated in business with Mrs. Steen; five grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. M. L. Parker of Los Angeles; Mrs. Bert Smith of Eugene, Oregon; Mrs. Clarence King and Mrs. Carl Ziebarth of Davenport, Iowa; and a brother, Edward Carstens of Davenport.
