#1-22 Jan., 1942 - The Enterprise - Erwin Miles

FORMER BLAIR MAN DIES IN HAWAII

Word has been received of the death on January 9 of a of a former Blair man, Erwin Miles, at Honolulu, Hawaii. Mr. Miles, who was principal of a Honolulu industrial school, together with this wife and daughter, visited Washington County friends as recently as last summer.

Details of Miles’ death, as learned by Attorney Seymour Smith of Omaha, were not revealed fully, and it is not indicated whether or not he died in war activity.

With his parents, Miles lived along the Calhoun-DeSoto road about two miles north of Fort Calhoun when a boy early in the 1900’s. He attended DeSoto and Fort Calhoun High Schools, and later was employed by Gus Rathmann, then Ford dealer for Blair. He had been connected with the Honolulu school for several years.

TO BURY MILES’ ASHES HERE SUN.

The ashes of Ervin L. Miles, former Washington County man who died January 9, 1942 at Queens Hospital in Honolulu, T. H. will be buried in the Blair cemetery on Sunday afternoon at two o’clock. A Masonic service at the graveside is planned.

Born November 2, 1889, Miles spent his childhood and grew to young manhood on a farm between DeSoto and Fort Calhoun. Following his graduation from the University of Nebraska, he left for the Hawaiian Islands where he spent his life as a teacher.

Survivors include the widow and a daughter; two brothers, Lloyd of New York and Earl of Idaho; two sisters, Miss Ella Miles of California and Mrs. George Moser of Ruport, Idaho.

According to reports, Miles died of natural causes. The body was cremated in the Islands.
