D. C. VAN DEUSEN, FORMER EDITOR DIED FRIDAY

Former Editor Of Pilot, Reared In County. B.H.S. Graduate

Don C. Van Deusen, former citizen of this county and editor of The Courier and of The Pilot, died at his home in St. Petersburg, Florida last Friday according to reports received Tuesday by relatives here.

He was born in Marietta, Ohio October 12, 1871, and came to Blair in 1873. Here his father engaged in farming on a farm southwest of Blair where he grew to manhood. He graduated from the Blair High School in the class of 1889, and shortly after that engaged in newspaper work, taking over The Courier which he edited for a number of years. Later he purchased The Pilot of L.A. Williams and Thos. T. Osterman, then editor of The Democrat, took over The Courier, making a consolidation of the two papers. About fourteen years ago he sold The Pilot to John A. Rhoades and Thos. T. Osterman and retired from active life.

On July 22, 1935 his wife passed away, and grief for her, coupled with financial reverses, caused him to leave Blair. He located in St. Petersburg, Florida where he remarried.

Since his second marriage but little has been heard of him. News reached Blair some months ago that he had been ill and nothing more was heard until news of his death reached relatives Tuesday.

Of a family of nine children, only two remain, Gilmore Van Deusen of Blair and Mrs. Grace Gammell of Shelton, Nebraska.

Interment was made at St. Petersburg.
