HERMAN HARTWIG BURIED FRIDAY

Rev. Herman Henry Hartwig, 94, who made his home in Blair from 1933 to 1939, died in the Lutheran Old People’s home Thursday. While in this community he made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. George Hartwig, now of Fremont.

Ordained in the Lutheran ministry after studying in New York City, Rev. Hartwig had pastorships in Lyons and Kendall, New York. Retiring in 1910, he lived at Kendall until 1926 when he moved to Springfield, Ohio to live with his son, George H. Hartwig, who was a professor at Wittenberg College from 1927 to 1932. He also spent one year at Cambridge while the son attended Harvard university from 1932-33.

In 1933 he came to Blair with his son who had accepted a professorship at Dana College, and lived here until 1939 when Dr. Hartwig accepted a position with the Midland College faculty.

Private funeral services were held in Fremont Friday; the body was sent to Albany, New York for burial.
