As Sadie Monke, the deceased was born near Herford, Germany on June 30, 1864, a daughter of the late John Henry and Frederike Monke. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of 5, arriving in Omaha from New Orleans by a river boat, and from there the family came to Fontanelle where they settled.

In 1892 she was married to Carl Mengedoht; they made their home in Arlington for a time, later moving to a farm near Fontanelle. Her husband and daughter preceded her in death.

Among the survivors are three sons, Henry and LeRoy of Herman, Arthur of Arlington; four daughters, Mrs. Albert Lallman of Arlington, Mrs. Fred Egbers of Hooper, Mrs Kermit Schulman of Nickerson and Mrs. Ervin Sprick of Fort Calhoun; a brother, Henry Monke of Fontanelle; and nineteen grandchildren of whom one is August C. Lallman stationed with the U.S. Army at Fort Warren, Wyoming.

Mrs. Mengedoht’s health began to decline about five years ago. She had been in a serious condition since suffering an apoplectic stroke two weeks previous to her death. She passed away at the home of her son, Arthur Mengedoht near Arlington.
