EARLY RESIDENT RITES MONDAY

John Schmahling, well and prominently known in Blair in her early history, died last Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hilda Kildahl of Omaha. At his death he was 85 years of age.

John Schmahling was born in Germany, and came to Omaha in 1881 and to Blair in 1882. Being a carpenter by trade, he at once entered the contracting and building business, and for a long term of years was interested in most of the construction work of the city.

He built the home now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bross and for years resided there. A number of years ago he moved from Blair to West Point to be near a daughter, and it was there that his wife died.

Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Kildahl and Mrs. Edith Soll, both of Omaha and five grandchildren. Besides there members of his immediate family, he leaves a brother-in-law, F. W. Arndt of Blair and a niece, Mrs. John Sas of Blair.

He was buried last Monday, which was his 86th birthday, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery beside the wife who had passed on years before.
