Alfred E. "Gene" Baker, 73

Alfred E. Baker, 73, of Arlington, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, at the Arlington Community Church, with the Rev. Lynn Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Arlington Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of V.F.W. Post No. 8332 and American Legion Post No. 71 of Arlington.

Visitation began Thursday, and continues from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington.

Alfred E. "Gene" Baker was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Arlington to Alfred and Cecil (Yager) Baker. He grew up in Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, from Oct. 15, 1947 until Oct. 8, 1951. He lived in Rhode Island for a short time after his marriage to Etta Matrullo in Cranston, R.I., and then moved to Omaha.

He worked for various trucking firms as a sales representative until retiring in 1994. He returned to Arlington in 1999.

He was a member of the National Transportation Club, and he loved to hunt and fish.

He is survived by a son, Greg Baker, and daughter, Andrea Baker, both of Omaha; two granddaughters; and a brother, Ed Baker of Arlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Etta; and a sister, Eleanor Waldron.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.
