Services Held For Alfred Baker

Services for Alfred J. Baker were at 2 p.m. Monday at Arlington Community Church. Mr. Baker, of Arlington, died Friday morning at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County Annex. He was a railroad maintenance foreman with Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 17 years. Mr. Baker served in the Navy during World War I aboard the U S North Dakota.

He was born September 11, 1897, in Mapleton, Iowa, and grew up in California Junction, Iowa. He also lived in Lincoln and Kennard before moving to Arlington in 1927.

Mr. Baker was a member of the Arlington Community Church, longtime member of the Arlington VFW Post and Hiram Masonic Lodge 52 AFH AM.

On January 28, 1920, he married Cecil Yager of Missouri Valley, Iowa, in Woodbine Iowa. She survives. Other survivors include sons, Edward of Arlington and Alfred E.of Omaha; daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Waldron of Arlington; sisters, Mrs. Irvin (Margaret) Stolley of Denver and Mrs. Charlotte Stricklett of Blair; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Dr. Gene Laramy officiated the Monday service. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery. Military graveside services were conducted by VFW Post 8312 and the American Legion Post 71 both of Arlington.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established to the church or the Friends of the Arlington Library Fund.
