EARLY SETTLER DIED MAR. 6 IN FREMONT

Homesteaded On York Creek In 1869. Born In Sweden

Mrs. John G. Erikson, well known in this county, passed away in the Fremont hospital last Thursday, March 6th. At her death she was past seventy seven years of age.

Funeral services were held at the Rose Hill church Monday afternoon at two o’clock with a Fremont minister officiating, and interment was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Erikson, as Martha Peterson, was born in Jernsborg Socken,Vermland, Sweden on May 31, 1863. With her parents she came to America, landing on American soil on May 31, 1868, her fifth birthday. The family went immediately to Moline, Illinois, but later to Florence, Nebraska. Here they remained until October of 1869 when they came to this county and homesteaded up on York Creek.

She was married on July 9, 1887 to John G. Erikson who passed away twenty five years ago. Her married life was spent on the farm on York Creek, and after the death of her husband she continued to reside there. A daughter, Mrs. Otto Nelson, passed away fourteen years ago.

Three sons and two daughters are left to mourn her death. They are Andrew M. Erikson of Nicolaus, California; Emil B. of Omaha; Mrs. Ruth Forsberg of Blair; Carl J. of Herman; and Goldie W. Erikson of Sioux City, Iowa; also six grandchildren and other relatives.

For the past nineteen years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Forsberg.
