NELS SVENDGARD ARTIST, DIES

Nels M. Svendgard of Omaha, a brother of Peter A. Svendgard of Blair and a former resident of Arlington, died of a heart attack on Friday, February 28.

Born in Denmark on November 5, 1871, Mr. Svendgard had lived in Paris, London, Boston and California before coming to the middle west. He was an artist, and his large collection of pictures and tapestries created much interest wherever they were shown; he had exhibited a number of his paintings at Joslyn Memorial. He was also a fine pianist, but had not played much since his piano was destroyed in the San Francisco earthquake. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Painters and Decorators Union.

Survivors include the brother, a nephew, Nels Svendgard of Arlington, with whom he made his home for several years and other relatives in the Blair and Kennard vicinities.

Brief funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Bendorf Funeral Home, and the body was cremated at Forest Lawn cemetery in Omaha.
