Within a few days of her husband's death, Mrs. Allen passed away last Friday afternoon. They rest side by side in the Blair cemetery. This second funeral took place on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. John B. Williams, pastor of the Christian church, conducted the service, as he had the one before. The same sacred music was discoursed by the same gifted quartette of singers, Messrs VanDeusen and Arndt and Misses Vanola Brunton and Cora Stricklett. Rebecca D. Howard was born in Kentucky, November 18, 1844, being therefore well on to 73 years of age at her death. Raised in Ohio, she married Amos Halstead in her 19th year, becoming the mother of eight children, five of whom are living, viz: Clement Halstead, of Blair; Mrs. Mary McManigal, of Glenwood, Iowa; Mrs. Ellen Allen and Mrs. N.A. Stowe, of Blair and George Halstead, of New Berlin, Ohio. About forty-five years ago they came to DeSoto and eight years later moved to Blair. The next year the husband died. Another four years and Mrs. Halstead married Mr. D.C. Allen, and they have been co-helpers to the end. She has nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. four of her grandsons are now serving in the army and one of them came from Houston, Texas, in time to see her before she died. The pallbearers were all her grandsons.

Mrs. Rebekah Allen Follows Husband To Great Beyond

Within a week of the death of her husband, Mrs. Rebekah Allen passed to the Great Beyond at the home of her daughter, Mrs. N. A. Stowe, in Blair, on Friday, Oct. 19, 1917.

Rebekah D. Howard was born in Kentucky, Nov. 16, 1844, and was married at Portsmouth, Ohio, to Amos Halstead in 1861. To this union eight children were born, five of whom are living. They are Clemet Halstead, Mrs. N. A. Stowe and Mrs. Ellen Allen, of Blair, Mrs. Mary McManigal, of Glenwood, Ia., and George Halstead, of New Berlin, Ohio. She has nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Four of her grandsons are now serving in the U. S. Army.

Mrs. Halstead came to Nebraska with her husband in 1874, locating at DeSoto, coming to Blair in 1880. Mr. Halstead died Feb. 14, 1881, and four years later Mrs. Halstead was married to D. C. Allen.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. John B. Williams from the home of Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Stowe on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 21, and the remains were laid to rest beside her husband in the Blair Cemetery. Obituaries courtesy of the Washington County Genealogical Society.
