Kennard Business Man Died At His Home Wednesday

Earl Schlotfeld, operator of the Champlin Service Station in Kennard, died at his home late Wednesday evening, April 1. He was 56 years, 7 months of age. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock at the Kennard Lutheran Church Saturday. Burial was made a the Kennard Cemetery under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home of Blair.

Pallbearers were Roy Rosenbaum, Melvin Hoier, Sam Wright, Claus Wrigg, Henry Gehrk and LaVerne Byers.

Earl Schlotfeld, son of Wallace and Mary Schlotfeld and son-in-law of John H. Bleckwehl of Pender, was born on August 30, 1913 at Carroll. He attended school at Laurel and Dixon area.

He is survived by his wife Viona whom he married September 10, 1940 at Ponca. Four children were born to this union: Carole, Mrs. Clinton Gaver of Elkhorn; Darrell of Arlington; Layton of Kennard; Nancy, Mrs. Jerry Surber of Logan Valley, Ia.; and seven grandchildren; three brothers, John of Ashby, Minn.; Clarence of Blair and Harry of Wabasha, Minn.; a sister Lola, Mrs. Wade Denton of Oakland besides other relatives and friends.
