MRS. SUSAN T. NEWELL DIES AT 87 YEARS

Early Settler; Was Homesteader in Frontier County

Mrs. Susan T. Newell died in the Blair Hospital Wednesday evening at 11:15. She had been operated on nearly two weeks ago for a strangulated hernia, but had recovered nicely from that when heart complications set in which ended her life.

She was born in Kentucky on January 22, 1862, and when fourteen years of age came to this county. She was married to M. D. Newell on Sept. 6, 1880, and in 1930 she and her husband celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at Blair.

Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Newell, Mrs. Elizabeth Jenkins of Blair who passed away at Blair in August of 1947 and a son, E. S. Newell who resides in Los Angeles, California. She has three brothers, Will Hall, James and Henry and two sisters, Mrs. Cynthia Springgate and Mrs. Tishia Schaffer, all of Arlington, who with the son survive her.

Besides these three are six grandchildren, Mrs. Wm. Suverkrubbe of Calhoun; Edward Jenkins of Omaha; Mrs. Catherine Ericsson of Wahoo, Nebr.; Mrs. Edna Brewster of the Canal Zone; Mrs. Sue Bruce of Los Angeles; and Myron D. Newell of Riverside, California.

Since the death of her husband and her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Jenkins, she has resided alone except for the last several months, Mrs. Lutie McKay, a relative, has resided with her.

She is another of those early settlers of the county to go. Soon those rugged, serious early settlers will be but a memory.
