JENS IVARSON, 83, OF ORUM VICINITY DIED SUNDAY

Heart Attack Takes Aged Farmer While Doing Chores

After a long illness and several heart attacks, Jens Ivarsen passed away on September 19, 1948. While he had been ailing he was still able to be about his farm chores and it was while doing his work that the end came suddenly.

Jens Ivarsen was born in Magleby, Denmark, on the sixteenth day of November, 1864. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. On the second day of May, 1883, he emigrated to America and arrived at Alden, Minn., on the 22nd day of that month. In the winter of 1886 he moved to Blair, Nebraska and worked on a farm west of town for a year. On the second day of February, 1887 he was married to Inger Marie Jensen, after which he took up farming for himself. To this union two children were born, namely Mrs. Carl Rasmussen and Peter Ivarsen, both of Orum. His wife died on the 30th day of April, 1923. On the 3rd day of April, 1934 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Ella Pugh, a widow. She preceded him in death on the eleventh day of March, 1946.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Carl Rasmussen and his son, Peter Ivarsen. He will not only be missed by his family, but by a host of friends who respected him for his high ideals of living. He was a real man and of a class which the world needs.

Jens Ivarsen was a loyal member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Orum. He was a man of sterling character. In his early years he was civic minded and took much interest in politics.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Orum church, and interment under the supervision of the Campbell Mortuary was made in the Orum cemetery.
