#1 Lester Stanley

Lester Almon Stanley was born February 21, 1890 on a farm in southern Washington County in the Coffman neighborhood, now known as Nashville.

He was the second son of Hettie Preston and Almon Stanley, and he lived his entire 97 years in Washington County in the Fort Calhoun and Blair area, farming with his brothers.

He attended school at Grandview (Slader District No. 43)

Lester and his brothers Walter and Dwight farmed in the Nashville, DeSoto, Cruickshank and Long Creek areas. In 1944, he, his brother Walter and sister Edith bought the William Lorenzen farm in the Long Creek area where they lived until 1983, when they moved to the Crowell Home in Blair.

Lester was a long-time member of the First Methodist Church of Blair.

Lester enjoyed his 97th birthday on Saturday visiting with friends and passed away Sunday morning, February 22, at Memorial Community Hospital where he was recuperating from a broken hip.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Dwight, Harvey and Walter.

He is survived by his sister Edith; his nieces, Pearl Hender, Tustin, California; Jeanette Couch, Odessa, Missouri; his nephews Floyd Stanley, Council Bluffs; John Stanley, Valley, and by grand-nieces and nephews.

Services were held February 25, 1967 at the Seivers-Sprick Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Dale Westadt.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Carol Sprick, organist and Mrs. Laura Dey, soloist.

Pallbearers were John Lorenzen, Phil Lorenzen, Carl Lorenzen, Stanley Stirek, Lester W. Stanley, Thomas Hoover, Norman Slader and Raymon Jensen.

Burial was in Fort Calhoun cemetery.
