Buffington, Hannah Jane (Monical) 12/18/1908 #1-Printed in the Wednesday, December 23, 1908 Pilot, Blair, Nebraska

Jake Evans was taken very much worse last week, and went back to the government sanitarium at Hot Springs, S.D. Mrs. Evans received word Friday morning of the death of her step-mother, Mrs. George Buffington, in Herman, and went up on the afternoon train. Mrs. Buffington went to bed as usual and planned what she was going to do in the morning. In the morning she did not awake for her spirit had passed over into the morning of a new life. The body was cold, which showed that death had occurred early in the evening, but Mr. Buffington did not know it until he awoke in the morning. The funeral was held in Sunday afternoon but Mrs. Evans could not remain for it as she was called to Elgin, Neb., Saturday on account of the serious illness of her brother.

#2-23 Dec., 1908 - The Tribune - Hannah Jane (Monical) Buffington

The announcement of the death of Mrs. George Buffington last Friday morning was a surprise to the many friends of the family. On Thursday she was in her usual good spirits and apparently feeling better than she had for some time. She was awake at midnight and probably died about two hours later. Mr. Buffington got up in the morning and spoke to her and, receiving no answer, he thought she was enjoying a good sleep and went out to do the chores. A few minutes later her son came down stairs and discovered that her spirit had returned to God Who gave it. Mrs. Buffington would have been sixty five years old on the sixth of January, and leaves many relatives to mourn her loss. Mr. Buffington will be eighty seven years old this winter. He is the oldest soldier in the county and has many friends who mourn with him. The funeral was held Sunday.
