Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock at the home and 2:30 at the Arlington Methodist church Thursday for Solomon T. Barton, Rev. Davis Simpson officiating.

He was laid to rest in the Orum cemetery. Pallbearers were six of his nephews, Emil and Clifford Johnson, Floyd Barton, Kenneth Larson, Lloyd Nelson and Edward Newkirk.

A faithful member of the Arlington church for 23 years, he was born May 13, 1867 in Edgewood, Illinois and passed away November 4, 1940 at the Dodge county hospital in Fremont after an illness of a little over a week; he was 73 years, 5 months and 23 days old. Mr. Barton with his parents came to Washington county in 1877, settled on a farm northwest of Blair where he grew to manhood.

He was married to Theresia Larson on March 23, 1894. They lived on a farm in the Blair vicinity for three years, after which they moved to the Arlington vicinity where they remained until his death.

To this union two children were born, Arthur of Arlington and Mrs. Ethel Pritzel of Herman. Surviving him are his widow, two children, one brother, Lester Barton of Blair, and four sisters, Mrs. Lydia Pixley of Ainsworth, Nebraska; Annie Barton, Mrs. Stella McCown and Mrs. Esther Nelson of Blair and five grandsons. Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Barton was a man of sterling qualities, a friend to everyone and will be greatly missed in the community.
