MRS. AMANDA M. CARTER (nee Sullivan)

Mrs. Amanda M. Carter (nee Sullivan) was born in Eaten County, Michigan, and with her parents, emigrated to DeSoto, Washington County, Nebraska, in 1856. Here, she married her now bereaved husband, T. M. Carter, September 21, 1856. With the exception of the time spent with her husband in the army, and a short residence in Iowa, she has resided in this vicinity since her first arrival in 1856.

She became the mother of nine children - Mrs. A. Garner, Mrs. Nellie Wright, both of Ainsworth, Nebraska, Mrs. Mabel Dashner of Glenwood, Iowa, Marian, Clara and Pauline, still in the parental home, R. B, and Jay N. of this city, and William A. who preceded her to the great beyond.

She was converted and joined the M. E. Church in 1857, since which time she has lived a consistent, though undemonstrative, Christian life.

For six years she has been a confirmed invalid. Such was the nature of her affliction that she must have suffered greatly. Through all she endured with becoming patience.

She departed this life very suddenly at her home in Blair, October 26, 1900. A large concourse attended the funeral exercises which were from the house. In charge of the rites, J. L. Vallow Pastor, M. E. Church.

Although not wholly unexpected the hand of affliction falls with crushing weight upon the hearts of the bereaved and while we look up through our tears to Him who tempers the minds to the Shorn Lamb we also remember with gratitude the valuable assistance and hearty sympathy extended to us by neighbors at home and friends abroad, during the protracted sickness and final burial of our beloved wife and loving mother.
