FRANK BATES RITES WEDNESDAY

Frank Bates of Kennard passed away sometime during the night, and his death was discovered by 7:30 Monday morning. Frank had been in poor health for three years, and his death, while it was a great shock to his friends and relatives, was not unexpected.

He was born in Abington, Virginia on July 3, 1878, and would have reached his 70th birthday on next July 3rd. His parents were farmers and Frank spent his boyhood days on a farm in the Sunnyside school district south of Blair. He attended this school.

He was married to Miss Wilhelmina Rodel, a teacher in this county, on July 10th, 1918. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Underwood, then pastor of the Methodist church.

Frank was in the produce business at Extra, Iowa for several years. He finally went to California where for a year he worked for Richard Dix of Santa Monica. Frank had charge of the movie actors ranch.

After leaving the services of Richard Dix he returned to Kennard and again entered the produce business which he followed until his health became so impaired that he was forced to give up the business.

Besides the grief-stricken wife, he leaves a brother, Tom, and a sister, Mrs. Nannie Robinson, both of Omaha, and two sisters in Kennard, Mrs. Jack Rosenbaum and Miss Lena Bates.

Deceased was a member of the Christian church, and his upright life was proof of his consistency with the organization.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church in Kennard with Rev. Beebe of Arlington and Rev. Thorslev of Kennard officiating, and interment under the supervision of Chris K. Bendorf was made in the Kennard cemetery.
