LARS JESPERSEN IS CRUSHED BY TRACTOR

Crushed By Tractor, Injuries Prove Fatal. Native of County

Lawrence Jespersen of Craig met his death Tuesday as the result of an accident Monday evening. He and his son, Lyle, were digging a basement at the Latter’s home. The digging had advanced to where a dirt scraper was used to haul the dirt away by a traitor hitched onto it from the outside.

Lawrence had charge of the tractor. He would back it down to the wall of the house and then when the dirt scraper was full he would pull it out with the tractor. The work was progressing when Lawrence, who was on the tractor, started the tractor in reverse instead of forward. The result was that the tractor forced him against the sill of the house crushing him. He was rushed to the Oakland hospital and then to the Immanuel hospital in Omaha.

The accident happened at about six o’clock Monday and he died at five a.m. Tuesday.

Deceased was born on the old home place south of Blair on May 7th, 1891 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Nels Jespersen. He grew to manhood on the farm and received his education in the county schools.

On February 11, 1914 he was married to Clara C. Hansen. For a number of years he farmed the old home farm but a few years back he went to Tekamah and then to the farm just west of Craig.

Three children and the wife are left to mourn him. The children are Lyle and Avery, whose address is West Point and a daughter, Mrs. John R. Lorsch of Kennard. Also three brothers and three sisters are left to mourn him. They are Mrs. P. C. Petersen of Blair; Mrs. Carl Hansen, O’Neil; Mrs. Lars Jensen, Cherokee, Iowa; and Jasper Jespersen of Hemmingford, Nebraska; Jens of Des Moines, Iowa and Otto of Blair. He also leaves four granddaughters.

He had planned to retire from active life and he and his wife had spent two months on the west coast during the summer.

Funeral services will be held Friday from the West Side Methodist church at Oakland at 1 p.m. and from the Blair Methodist church under the auspices of the Bendorf Funeral Home at 3 p.m., and interment will be made in the Blair cemetery.
