ELIZABETH R. JERKINS DIED AUGUST 11TH

One of the best known and most highly respected women in Blair, Mrs. Elizabeth Jenkins, passed away last Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Catherine Ericson of Wahoo, Nebraska.

Mrs. Jenkins had been in failing health for some time and had really been quite ill for several months.

As Elizabeth R. Newell, she was born in the New England school district west of Herman on Oct. 4, 1881 where the family resided for some time. Later the family moved to the Willard Newell farm in the Gardner school district just west of Blair where on October 8, 1901 she was married to Fred S. Jenkins.

Three children, Mrs. Ruth Suverkrubbe of Calhoun; Edward Jenkins of Omaha; and Mrs. Catherine Ericson of Wahoo survive. The husband died in March of 1934 so the children just mentioned and four grandchildren, her aged mother and a brother, E. S. Newell of Arlington, California and other relatives and friends are left to mourn her.

Words are too weak to paint a picture of Mrs. Jenkins’ life. Always willing to do her part and faithful to the higher concepts of life, who lived a truly Christian life.

She was a member of the Church of God and as was her custom always did her part. Coming of pioneer stock she was fully cognizant of the early life of those hardy settlers of that early period.

The Enterprise extends sympathy to the sorrowing family.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Bendorf Funeral Home with Rev. Grover Gordon, a friend of the family, officiating, and interment will be made in the Blair cemetery.
