NELS NELSEN RITES JUNE 11TH

Nels Nelsen, the son of Jens Peter Broberg, was born on October 27, 1874 at Holberg, Denmark. At the age of 14 he came with his parents to Looking Glass (Genoa), Nebraska. As a young man he came to Washington County as a farm laborer, and here on November 17, 1907 he was united in marriage with Miss Hannah Jensen, the daughter of Johannes Jensen of the Orum community. The couple has lived on farms west of Blair since that time, for the last three years on a tract of land which they purchased.

Mr. Nelsen has not been well for the past three or four years, and the past year has been very poorly. On Thursday of last week his condition became critical, and he was removed to Clarkson Hospital in Omaha on Saturday, passing away on Sunday morning, June 8.

The funeral service was held in First Lutheran Church on June 11 with Rev. H. C. Jorgensen in charge. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery.

Mr. Nelsen leaves to mourn his passing his wife, six children, Mrs. Josephine Romero of Leadville, Colorado; Raymond Nelsen of Denver, Colorado; Theodore Nelsen of Blair; Vernon Nelsen of Keenesburg, Colorado; Mrs. Irene Hiduk of Leadville, Colorado; and Mrs. Virginia Pilleggi of San Diego, California. A son, Nels, was killed in action in Germany on March 19, 1945. Mr. Nelsen is also survived by nine grandchildren, three brothers, Peter of Albion, Fred of Beemer and Louis of Omaha and two sisters, Mr. Mary Oberst of Monroe, Nebraska and Mrs. Albert Stenzel of Monroe, Nebraska. A brother Chris and sister Marianne passed away previously.
