J. P. LARSON, 99, DIED TUESDAY

Born And Married In Sweden. Came to America in 1881

OLDEST PERSON IN COUNTY

John Peter Larson of Herman died Tuesday morning, April 8th. At his death he was past 99 years of age. He was born in Sweden January 14, 1848. He spent his early life in the old country where he was married December 6th, 1879.

Two of the family of six children were born in Sweden, one passing away before they came to this country. The family came to America in 1881, first settling in Illinois, and in 1882 came to Nebraska. In March of 1886 the family moved to Herman where the husband found employment as section foreman on the railroad which position he held until June of 1899 when their home was destroyed by a tornado. Until the following March the family resided in Tekamah when they moved to a farm west of Herman.

They lived on this farm until 1914, and they moved to Minnesota where they lived for six years, and returned to Herman where he lived until his death.

The wife died March 2, 1940, and her loss was a shock to him from which he never recovered, but patiently he waited. His health was good up until last October when he fell at two different times which caused him to be bedfast. A son, Henning, and a daughter, Louise, have been with him at home and have cared for him with the most loving care, and those not at home have always had him uppermost in their minds.

To have lived 99 years and to have known the manner of life on two continents is a most interesting theme, and to have lived among us for such a long term of years, and to have gained the respect and held it of his community is all that one could desire.

His life was clean, honorable and one worth of emulation and his children and friends will always point with pride to him.

Those left to mourn are Louise at home; Frank of Sierra Madra, California; Henning at home and Mrs. Wallace Anderson of Powell, Wyoming.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the Methodist church in Herman, and interment will be made in the Herman cemetery.
